## Fairfax Traffic & DUI Defense: Protect Your License, Record and Career

In Virginia, many traffic offenses are more serious than people expect. Reckless driving and DUI are criminal charges that can bring fines, license suspension and even jail time. We help you protect your license, your record and your livelihood.

Many people assume a traffic ticket or a DUI is a minor matter they can handle alone. In Virginia that is often not the case. A conviction can mean heavy fines, the loss of your driving privileges, a permanent criminal record and, for many Northern Virginia professionals, a threat to a security clearance. Our attorneys defend clients charged with a wide range of traffic and DUI offenses.

## Charges We Handle

- Reckless driving, including reckless driving by speed
- Speeding and other moving violations
- DUI/DWI involving alcohol or drugs
- Refusal of a breath or blood test
- Driving on a suspended license
- Passing a stopped school bus or an emergency vehicle
- Racing and other serious traffic charges

## How We Build Your Defense

We review all of the evidence against you: why you were stopped, what tests were given, how and by whom they were administered, and whether the procedures were followed. Attention to detail is often what makes the difference — in reducing fines and penalties, protecting your license, or getting a charge reduced or dismissed.

## DUI in Virginia

A DUI charge in Virginia can carry mandatory penalties, especially when blood alcohol content is elevated or a minor was in the vehicle. Penalties may include fines, license suspension, required participation in the Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP) and, in many cases, an ignition interlock device as a condition of a restricted license. Virginia’s implied consent law also makes an unreasonable refusal of a breath or blood test a separate offense with its own penalties. Because the stakes are high, getting experienced guidance early matters.

## Your Security Clearance May Be at Risk

An arrest for reckless driving or DUI can put a security clearance — and the job that depends on it — at risk. We have helped many clients in Northern Virginia protect their clearances and their careers, and we keep that goal in view from day one.

## Frequently Asked Questions

Is reckless driving a criminal offense in Virginia?

Yes. Reckless driving in Virginia is generally a criminal misdemeanor, not a simple traffic infraction. A conviction can carry fines, license suspension, demerit points and a criminal record, which is why it deserves careful attention.

Can I refuse a breathalyzer in Virginia?

You can decline the preliminary roadside test, but under Virginia’s implied consent law an unreasonable refusal of the breath or blood test after a DUI arrest is a separate offense with its own penalties, including license suspension.

Will a DUI or reckless driving charge affect my security clearance?

It can. Many clearance holders are required to report arrests, and the outcome of the case matters. We work to protect your record with your clearance in mind.

Do I really need a lawyer for a traffic ticket?

For a minor infraction, maybe not. For reckless driving, DUI, driving on a suspended license or any charge that could affect your license, record or job, speaking with an attorney is strongly recommended.
